Our fellowship offers a dynamic and thoughtfully designed didactic experience that supports the development of clinical expertise, critical thinking, and academic growth. Through a blend of structured teaching, interactive case discussions, and multidisciplinary collaboration, fellows are immersed in a rich learning environment throughout training.

 

 

Weekly Core Curriculum:

  • Thursday Didactics: Core Nephrology Conference Series
    • A longitudinal curriculum covering the full spectrum of nephrology, designed to build a strong clinical and physiologic foundation.
  • UCLA Renal Grand Rounds (1st & 3rd Wednesdays)
    • Expert-led presentations covering a broad range of clinical, research, and emerging topics in nephrology.
  • SoCal Kidney Pathology Consortium (4th Wednesdays)
    • A regional collaboration between UCLA and Cedars-Sinai highlighting complex and instructive pathology cases.

Case-Based & Fellow-Driven Learning:

  • Fellows Clinical Forum (2nd Wednesdays)
    • Interactive, fellow-led sessions including Journal Watch, Kidney Court, and case presentations that promote critical thinking and clinical reasoning.
  • UCLA Acid-Base & GN Case Conference (4th Tuesdays)
    • Focused discussions emphasizing acid-base physiology and glomerular disease through real-world cases.

Multidisciplinary & Collaborative Conferences:

  • Renal-Rheumatology Conference
    • Integrated case discussions bridging nephrology, pathology, and rheumatology.
  • Renal Pathology Conference
    • Review of kidney biopsy pathology with Cedar Sinai pathology team.

Distinguished Lectures & Academic Forums

  • Quarterly Visiting Professorships: Invited speakers share specialized expertise and advances in kidney care.

    • Henry Shavelle Visiting Professor in Nephrology.

 

Fellows are given financial support to attend academic meetings, such as the American Society of Nephrology Renal Week, the National Kidney Foundation Spring Clinical Meeting, Renal Physician Associates, Home Dialysis University or the American Transplant Congress.

You’ll graduate with strong clinical judgment, scholarly skills, and confidence as an independent nephrologist.
