Program Director’s Corner

Welcome to the Olive View-UCLA Nephrology Fellowship Training Program.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about the Olive View–UCLA Nephrology Fellowship Training Program. It is truly a privilege to come to work each day to care for our patients and to teach residents and fellows in this setting.
Olive View–UCLA is a high-volume county hospital serving northern Los Angeles County, where our trainees are exposed to the full spectrum of kidney disease. Patients often present without a prior diagnosis and frequently in advanced stages of illness, providing fellows with a rich and challenging clinical experience in both inpatient and outpatient nephrology.
Our fellows build close, longitudinal relationships with their patients by maintaining continuity clinics throughout training. This allows them to follow disease progression, assess response to therapy, and develop strong patient–physician partnerships. In addition to multiple weekly adult continuity clinics, fellows rotate through busy inpatient consult services and have opportunities to gain experience in procedures, transplant nephrology, and specialty clinics based on their interests.

We offer a rigorous and well-rounded clinical experience across multiple training sites, with Olive View–UCLA serving as the home base for continuity care. Fellows develop their own patient panels and follow them over time—an invaluable aspect of training that fosters ownership, accountability, and clinical maturity.

Our program emphasizes a balance between clinical excellence and strong didactic education. Fellows are encouraged to function independently from day one, with close supervision and mentorship from readily available faculty. This approach builds confidence, sharpens decision-making skills, and makes the transition to independent practice seamless.

Our faculty are deeply committed to teaching and mentoring, with the shared goal of developing outstanding, compassionate, and mission-driven nephrologists. We seek applicants with a strong foundation in Internal Medicine, diverse backgrounds, and enthusiasm for caring for complex patients in a dynamic learning environment.

What an exciting specialty you have chosen. We hope you will apply and consider becoming part of the Olive View–UCLA Nephrology family—it could be the most meaningful and formative years of your medical training.
