Application

Applications must be submitted through ERAS.

For the 2024 ERAS cycle, our program will be collecting and reviewing data from the Supplemental ERAS Application. It is designed to help you share more information about yourself and assist our program in finding applicants who fit our program’s mission. Completion of the supplemental application is optional.

Most if not all interview spots will be filled by December.  Therefore, we recommend your application be completed and submitted by November 15.

Please submit the following in your application through MyERAS:

  • Personal Statement
  • Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
  • Medical School Transcript
  • USMLE Transcript
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    • Categorical track candidates: at least 3
      • Chair Letter from the Department of Medicine
      • 2 additional letters – best if no more than one letter from a research rotation
    • Preliminary track candidates: at least 2
      • 1 clinical letter from internal medical faculty
      • 1 clinical letter from any specialty (internal medicine or other)

You have the option of submitting the following through the Supplemental ERAS Application:

  • Geographic Preferences
  • Program Signals

Please note:

  • The Supplemental ERAS application is optional.
  • Each section of the supplemental ERAS application is optional.
  • For categorical track candidates, UCLA students and visiting students rotating on the internal medicine subinternship at Olive View will not send a program signal to us.

Interview

Invitations for interviews will be sent after we have reviewed the complete application.  You will be notified by email at the address you list on your application through Thalamus, an online scheduling service.  Invitations will be offered on a rolling basis while interview spots are available through the application season.

All interviews will be conducted virtually through Zoom.

UCLA Preliminary Medicine/Neurology: We will offer one-year positions in the Preliminary Medicine/Neurology track. These preliminary positions are reserved only for applicants who also match into UCLA Neurology Residency. There are NO required interviews for a position in the Preliminary Medicine/Neurology program. Preliminary positions are awarded to candidates who match with UCLA Neurology who also rank the Preliminary Medicine/Neurology program. To rank our program, first rank UCLA for Neurology (PGY-2-4 / Institution Code 1800521012 / NRMP Code 1956180A0), then rank Olive View for Preliminary Medicine/Neurology (PGY-1 / NRMP Code 2950140P2).

UCLA Preliminary Medicine/Ophthalmology: We offer positions for joint PGY-1 training in Preliminary Medicine and Ophthalmology through the UCLA Stein Eye Institute Residency Training Program. Candidates must interview and match with the UCLA Ophthalmology program.
